Required Inspection List
REQUIRED INSPECTION CALLS
Applicants/owners obtaining a building permit, are required by law to notify the office of the Building Inspector upon completion of the following stages of construction.
Please notify the Building Inspector approximately 2 working days before you are ready for the inspection, this will help to avoid any delays.
STAGE 1: FOOTINGS
It is the builder's responsibility to ensure that the footings rest on firm undisturbed soil, rock, or compacted granular fill. The footings/excavation shall be kept free of water, and protected from freezing at all times. Inspection must be made when form work is completed before placement of concrete.
STAGE 2: SUBFLOOR PLUMBING & RADON GAS PROTECTION
An inspection must be made when the subfloor plumbing/below slab plumbing and the radon gas protection have been installed.
STAGE 3: SUBFLOOR AND FOUNDATION INSULATION
An inspection must be made when the below slab/subfloor insulation has been installed.
STAGE 4: PRE-BACKFILL
The foundation must be inspected for anchorage, damp proofing and foundation drainage in place BEFORE BACKFILLING.
STAGE 5: GENERAL FRAMING & ROOF TIGHT
An inspection must be made when the structure is completely framed and boarded in. This also includes windows, doors and interior framing.
STAGE 6: PRE-DRYWALL
An inspection must be made when the rough plumbing, electrical work, mechanical systems, insulation and vapour barrier are complete, BEFORE DRYWALLING.
STAGE 7: BEFORE OCCUPANCY
A final inspection call must be made when the structure is completed or is ready for its intended use - before any occupancy.

Should the work be covered over before a required inspection is carried out, the Building Inspector is required under the Provincial Building Code Regulations to have the work uncovered to a point where he can carry out an adequate inspection.
