County Proposes Traffic Calming Measures in Bridgetown: Seeking Resident Feedback
The County of Annapolis is exploring new traffic calming measures in Bridgetown in response to ongoing concerns from residents about speeding and safety on local streets.
The proposed changes are intended to enhance public safety and improve traffic flow, with a particular focus on the Church Street and McKenna Street area. Before moving forward, the Municipality is seeking input from residents on the following proposed measures:
- Conversion of McKenna Street to a one-way street heading eastbound toward Jeffery Street. This change would be a permanent adjustment and would eliminate vehicle access from McKenna Street onto Church Street.
- Installation of seasonal speed bumps near 24 and 70 Church Street. These traffic calming features would be in place during three seasons to help reduce vehicle speeds and increase safety for pedestrians and drivers alike.
Residents are invited to share their feedback by emailing roads@annapoliscounty.ca. This email address will only be available for comments until October 27th, 4:30pm.
“Safety is always our top priority,” said Warden Diane Le Blanc. “We’ve heard from residents who live around Church St. and McKenna St., and they have concerns regarding speeding and traffic patterns in that area. These proposed changes are part of our ongoing commitment to making our streets safer for everyone, especially in areas where families walk, children play, and our community gathers.”
Implementation of these traffic calming measures is planned to commence later this fall. A map outlining the proposed changes as been attached to help residents visualize how the new measures would function within the community.
