West Dalhousie Wildfire Now “Under Control”; Warden Expresses Gratitude
The County of Annapolis was relieved and deeply grateful to learn that the West Dalhousie wildfire had officially been classified as “Under Control” over the weekend. This milestone marked a significant turning point in what has been a challenging and emotional journey for the community.
Recent rainfall brought much-needed support to firefighting efforts, and although the fire continues to burn deep within the forest, its new “Under Control” status means it is no longer expected to spread beyond established containment lines. The State of Local Emergency, although still in effect, will not be renewed when it expires on Friday of this week. Thorne Rd. will remain closed.
“This is incredible news for West Dalhousie and for Annapolis County,” said Warden Diane Le Blanc. “It is the result of tireless work, collaboration, and resilience shown by so many people and organizations over these past weeks. On behalf of Municipal Council and the residents of Annapolis County, I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Province of Nova Scotia, as well as the many firefighters from across the country, community partners, neighbouring municipalities, volunteers, and our dedicated municipal staff. Most of all, thank you to the people of West Dalhousie for your patience, strength, and courage.”
While this announcement is cause for celebration, Warden Le Blanc acknowledged that the impacts of the wildfire are still deeply felt. “Some of our residents lost their homes and livelihoods. Our focus now turns to supporting those families and helping the community recover and rebuild. Annapolis County is committed to walking beside them every step of the way.”
The Municipality encourages residents to remain cautious in the affected area. Though the fire is under control, conditions can still change, and firefighting crews continue to monitor and manage hot spots.
“This moment is about hope,” Warden Le Blanc added. “West Dalhousie is strong, and we will move forward together.”
