West Dalhousie Evacuation Order Lifted; State of Local Emergency Renewed

The County of Annapolis is pleased to share that the evacuation order for the West Dalhousie Wildfire has officially been lifted.

A phased re-entry is scheduled for Saturday, September 20th, which will take place on Morse Rd. Evacuees will be asked to provide ID upon re-entry.

  • 9:00am - civics 4957-5535 West Dalhousie Rd., 1971-2708 Thorne Rd., and all of Heartland Rd & Medicraft Lane
  • 10:00am – civics 47-265 Morse Rd., and 4527-4868 West Dalhousie Rd

The Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources has determined it is safe for the remaining residents to re-enter. While this is a positive step forward, the fire remains active, and conditions are still unpredictable. Residents must remain prepared to re-evacuate should the situation change.

“This is an important and emotional day for our community, it’s a day we have all been waiting for,” said Warden Diane Le Blanc. “We know that for some, returning brings relief, while for others, it brings heartbreak. Please know that the County stands with each of you. Whether you are rebuilding, recovering, or simply taking the next step forward, we are here to support you in every way we can.”

To ensure the continued safety of residents, Municipal Council has renewed the State of Local Emergency. Roads in the affected area will be open to local traffic only, with no public access permitted. Ongoing work with heavy equipment is still underway, and safety remains the top priority.

The final 84 civic addresses will be granted re-entry (not all residential properties), which is inclusive of the 20 properties that were lost. There will be no access between 2762-3408 Thorne Rd. due to continued work in the area. The County recognizes the weight of this loss and the difficult road ahead. “Together, along with provincial and community partners, we will continue to walk alongside those impacted.”

Provisions are being made for water to be provided to evacuees whose well water has been identified as needing further testing due to fire impacts. Residents who are re-entering are asked to bring a day’s supply of water with them to allow time for these arrangements to be made.

Nova Scotia Power has confirmed electricity will be restored to the homes of those returning. Special waste collection services have been arranged for September 22nd and September 25th, starting at 7:00am. New green bins are being delivered today for residents who require them. Residents are encouraged to visit www.annapoliscounty.ca for more details.

The Municipality remains committed to supporting evacuees for as long as needed. For questions or support, please call our Public Information line at 1-833-806-1515.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to the firefighters, first responders, and volunteers from across Canada, as well as our own community members whose courage, dedication, and compassion have brought us to this moment. Together, we will continue to move forward, one step at a time.
