A Hopeful Step Forward as More Evacuees Are Granted Re-entry

Today’s announcement marks another hopeful step forward for our community as another group of residents affected by the West Dalhousie fires are being allowed to return to their homes on Tuesday, September 16th.

Residences eligible for re-entry include 8 and 28 Spectacle Lake Rd., 122 Medicraft Lane, 5606–6160 West Dalhousie Rd (excluding properties: 5648, 5674, 5695, 6106). Currently, re-entry is focused on primary residences as work continues in the area and keeping traffic to a minimum is essential for everyone’s safety. Seasonal property owners will not be permitted full re-entry, but a site visit will be arranged so they can safely see their properties.

Entry will take place on Tuesday, September 16th, 9am-11am, and will only be accessible via Hwy 10. ID will be required. Residents should be prepared to present ID each time they re-enter, until further notice.

“Today brings a real sense of hope as more of our residents prepare to return home. Our evacuees remain our priority, and we’re here to support them in every way we can,” said Warden Diane Le Blanc. “I am deeply grateful to the Province, our partners, and especially to our evacuees for their patience, courage, and cooperation.”

Residents are reminded to follow all safety instructions while in the area and to remain alert to ongoing work. Also, a special waste collection date/time of Monday, September 22, 9:00am, has been confirmed for those re-entering on September 16th.

The County continues to work closely with provincial partners to ensure that re-entry is safe, orderly, and supportive for everyone.
