Annapolis County Anti-Poverty and Inclusion Initiative
– Municipal Council supported the proposed three commitments of the Anti-Poverty and Inclusion Initiative.

 

Bridgetown Regional Community School (BRCS) Trust Award Program – Municipal Council authorized payment from the Bridgetown School Trust to the BRCS in the amount of $8,893; and up to $2,800 for scholarships recipients upon confirmation of attendance at a post-secondary institution.

 

Appointment of Development Officer – Municipal Council appointed Ning Liang as the Development Officer for the Municipality of the County of Annapolis to administer the Municipality’s Land Use Bylaw and Subdivision Bylaw.

Animal Control Agreement – Municipal Council authorized an agreement for the County of Annapolis to provide dog control services to the Town of Annapolis Royal and the Town of Middleton, starting July 1, 2025, and ending March 31, 2030.

 

Budget Approval – Cyber Security Insurance – Municipal Council authorized funding from the Operating Reserve Fund, in the amount of $10,130, to cover costs of cyber security insurance with a liability limit of $2,000,000.

 

General Operating Line of Credit – Municipal Council authorized a general borrowing resolution in the amount of $2 million with Royal Bank of Canada to meet current expenditures for the Municipality of the County of Annapolis for the year ending March 31, 2026.

Temporary Borrowing Resolution - Municipal Council authorized the submission of a temporary borrowing resolution (TBR) to the Minister in the amount of up to $1,570,000 for capital financing.

Potential Addition of Lequille Water Customers - Municipal Council authorized staff to proceed with the process of transitioning the 14 remaining Annapolis Royal water customers, located in Lequille, to the Annapolis County Water Utility.

Fire Services – In the response to the province eliminating funding to the fire school,Municipal Council approved a letter of support, on behalf of fire services, be sent to Minister of Emergency Management, Kim Masland, and to Fire Marshall, Douglas MacKenzie, emphasizing the importance of dependable and consistent training for firefighters.

Funding Agreement with Town of Annapolis Royal for King’s Transit - Municipal Council approved entering into the proposed 5-Year transit funding agreement with the Town of Annapolis Royal.

Uranium Mining in Annapolis County – Municipal Council approved that a formal written request be sent to the provincial government asking them to pause before granting any leases for uranium exploration in Annapolis County, and to provide Council with the Province’s information and plan on how safe uranium mining will work, to allow time for Council and communities to become better informed and be able to provide input about the potential impacts of uranium on communities. It will be sent to David Bowlby MLA Annapolis, Honourable Jill Balser, MLA Digby/Annapolis, Chris D’Entremont West Nova MP, Premier Tim Houston, and Minister of Natural Resources, Kim Masland.

Municipal Electoral Boundary Report – Municipal Council agreed to submit an application to Nova Scotia Regulatory and Appeals Board to re-confirm the number of councillors at eleven with slight changes to all electoral districts.

Bridgetown Granville Street Project – Municipal Council amended its resolution, passed on April 15, 2025, regarding the Granville Street West sidewalk project, by replacing the approved design Option 2 with Option 1A (maintain north sidewalk and construct new south sidewalk inside utility poles), and staff to proceed with engineering design and utility coordination based on Option 1A, with no interruption to the current planning and scheduling timeline for the project.
