COUNTY SEEKS INPUT FROM LOCAL BUSINESSES IN RESPONSE TO PROPOSED 25% TARIFFS

The County of Annapolis wants to hear from local businesses to learn how they may be impacted by the 25 per cent tariff hike planned for next month.

President Donald Trump is still threatening to hit Canada with massive tariffs, citing 25 per cent tariffs on all Canadian imports, except for Canadian energy, which will see a 10 per cent tariff applied.

Although Canada is taking a stand and responding with 25 per cent tariffs on some imported U.S. products, the forecasted affects are still devastating.

“It is unimageable to be in a situation that is causing such uncertainty around our economy, the welfare of our local businesses, and our once strong relationship with our neighbours to the south,” said Annapolis County Warden Diane LeBlanc. “This is the time we must focus on supporting the markets here at home and strengthen collaboration within our province and country. We must do everything we can to protect the wellbeing of our citizens.”

Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Finance and Intergovernmental Affairs, has stated that the federal government and provinces have an obligation to support workers and people "unjustly affected by this American decision."

In response, Warden LeBlanc noted that the municipality is seeking input from Annapolis County businesses. “We want to hear from our local businesses to learn how they may be impacted by these tariffs.” The information collected will be shared with the federal and provincial governments, as they decide on funding programs to assist those who may be affected.

Local business owners are encouraged to share the affects the tariffs may have on them by sending an email to tariff25@annapoliscounty.ca

The 25 per cent tariffs are set to go into effect next month.
