Municipal Council Highlights - January 21, 2025

Presentation: Staff and Councillors were recognized for their years of service and loyalty to the municipality and the residents of Annapolis County.

 Years of Service:

  • Amy Brown (Public Works) – 10 yrs.
  • Phyllis McLean (Finance) – 10 yrs
  • Andrew Cranton (Public Works) – 25 yrs.
  • James Jenner (Public Works) – 25 yrs.
  • Eric Wiles (Public Works) – 25 yrs.
  • Charles Grant (Public Works) – 45 yrs.
  • Councillor Brian “Fuzzy” Connell (Council) – 20yrs.

Retirement:

  • Cheryl Mason (Protective Services) – 35 yrs.
  • Tim Durling (Public Works) – 31 yrs.

Municipal Council approved the Terms of Reference for the following:

  • AC Joint Police Advisory Board
  • Glyphosate Ad Hoc Committee

 Software Initiative – Municipal council authorized staff to proceed with a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the procurement of municipal software services.

 Appointment of Development Officers – Municipal Council appointed Jeremy Banks and Jherek Hallett as Development Officers for the Municipality of the County of Annapolis to administer the Municipality’s Land Use Bylaws and Subdivision Bylaw.

Appointment to East End Area Planning Advisory Committee – Municipal Council approved the appointment of Craig Parsons to the East End Area Planning Advisory Committee. Effective immediately for a two-year term ending October 31, 2026.

 Request to Deregister Property (William Letteney House) – The Municipal Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, 11:00 am, at the Municipal Administrative Building to consider the deregistration of the William Letteney House, a municipal registered heritage property located in Granville Ferry.

 Planning Advisory Committee Recommendations:

Cornwallis Park Secondary Planning Strategy - Municipal Council gave first reading of their intention to adopt the Cornwallis Park Secondary Planning Strategy and Land Use Bylaw and to set a public hearing date of Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 11:00am, at the Municipal Administrative Building.

 Registration of Municipal Heritage Property – Municipal Council will consider a representative portion of 8 Clementsport Road, Clementsport, for registration as a municipal heritage property. A public hearing date was set for Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Municipal Administration Building.

Audit Committee Recommendations:

Financial Statement (ending March 31, 2024) - Municipal Council adopted the audited financial statements for the year ended March 31, 2024.

Contract for the Provisions of Audit Services - Municipal Council authorized staff to enter into a 3-year contract with MNP LLP for the provision of audit services.

Bridgetown Community Recreation Association (BCRA) Funding Request - Municipal Council authorized the withdrawal of $38,621 from the Max Young Fund to be granted to the BCRA in support of their request to purchase ice re-surfacing equipment in fiscal 2025-26, should their funding applications for the purchase of a new electric ice re-surfacing machine be successful.
