Council Highlights October 17, 2023

As this Council session was closest to Remembrance Day, Warden and Councillors shared words of appreciation to those serving our country, recognized the state of current affairs internationally, and acknowledged Canada’s peace-keeping efforts. This was followed by a moment of silence to honour veterans who have passed.

Letter to NS Minister of Health (Hospital Parking Fess) – Municipal Council agreed that Municipality of the County of Annapolis send a letter to Nova Scotia Minister of Health and Wellness requesting that parking fees be removed from all public hospital facilities in Nova Scotia, effective immediately.

Community Spaces InventoryMunicipal Council accepted the Annapolis County Community Spaces Inventory Report as presented by Community Development Services staff. This is Phase 1 of a comprehensive inventory of municipally-owned parks, trails, and facilities. Phase 2 will include federal, provincial, and community-owned facilities in the County.

Policing Services Facilities Agreement (Town of Middleton) - Municipal Council authorized the Warden and Municipal Clerk to sign the agreement for the joint use of facilities for the RCMP within Town of Middleton Town Hall facility for a period of five years, effective June 21, 2022, ending March 31, 2027, with an option for a further five-year renewal term.

Community Grants: 

Springfield & District Volunteer Fire DepartmentMunicipal Council approved a grant in the amount of $2,400 to support upgrades to the kitchen and bathroom in accordance with the AM 1.4.9 Community Grants, Community Halls and Centre Assistance Program.

Cornwallis Park Community Association - Municipal Council approved a grant in the amount of $2,400 to support upgrades to the community hall in accordance with the AM 1.4.9 Community Grants, Community Halls and Centre Assistance Program.

Royal Canadian Legion Branch #33, Bridgetown - Municipal Council approved a grant in the amount of $5,000 to support heating upgrades in accordance with the AM 1.4.9 Community Grants, Capital Projects Assistance Program, Small Project Matching Grants.

Port George Regional Recreation Centre - Municipal Council approved a grant in the amount of $5,000 to support the cost of replacing their furnace and hot water tank in accordance with the AM 1.4.9 Community Grants, Capital Projects Assistance Program, Small Project Matching Grants.

Annapolis REMO Advisory Committee Intermunicipal Emergency Services AgreementMunicipal Council approved the Annapolis REMO – Intermunicipal Emergency Services Agreement between the Town of Annapolis Royal, Town of Middleton, and the Municipality of the County of Annapolis.

 Financial Statements for the Year Ended March 31, 2022Municipal Council adopted the consolidated financial statements for Municipality of the County of Annapolis, year ended March 31, 2022.
