General Labourer (Granville Ferry) – Permanent Full-Time
Rate of Pay: Starting at $24.11 - As per CUPE 4549 Collective Agreement.
The County of Annapolis is currently seeking a General Labourer to join our team! The General Labourer shall be a member of CUPE local 4549. This is an opportunity to work amongst the breathtaking natural beauty of the Bay of Fundy shoreline and the lush Annapolis River, where you will be captivated by coastal communities, towns, villages, historic properties and stunning parks that are the pride of our county. The General Labourer provides facility maintenance, upgrading and repair support services for water, wastewater, streets and drainage systems, snow removal, trails and other buildings and facilities owned or operated by the County of Annapolis as and when required. The General Labourer reports to and receives direction from the Lead Hand.
Qualifications:
Candidates for this position must possess as a minimum, a grade 12 or GED equivalent. Candidates must have a valid Nova Scotia driver’s license (minimum class 5, class 3 would be considered an asset). Certification in Water distribution treatment and / or wastewater collection treatment and post-secondary education in carpentry, plumbing or electrical would be considered an asset.
Ideally, the candidate must have a minimum of five years’ experience in the construction or maintenance of water or wastewater systems, with preference given to those whose experience is directly or indirectly working with a municipal government organization, or a combination of formal experience and lived experience.
Due to the nature of this position, the employee must have good communication, problem solving, decision making, critical thinking, job task planning and organization skills. Employees must be able to lift up to 23 kilograms and must be willing to obtain and maintain a variety of training certifications related to the position. This position will occasionally require work outside of normal office hours including evenings, weekends and holidays. The employee must be available to respond to urgent calls in adverse and variable weather conditions.
