Annapolis County Announces New Park Development

The Municipality of the County of Annapolis is pleased to announce a new park development located in Cornwallis Park.

The new park, named Annapolis Basin Tidal Beach Park, is composed of 3.16 acres with 10 parking spaces, including accessible parking spaces and an opportunity for expansion.

“The tidal beach along the Annapolis Basin has been a hidden gem for a long time,” said Annapolis County Warden Alex Morrison. “We (Council) are so pleased to provide a safe and accessible area where people can go and enjoy the amazing views of the Annapolis Basin and North Mountain. It is sure to be a destination spot for residents and tourists alike.”

Amenities will include an accessible and easy pathway to the tidal beach, a pathway around the parameter of the land, picnic/sitting areas, a bike rack and a viewing platform that will be accessible for all users. The area will be highlighted with new signage to showcase the new park and the beach.

The supporting partners in this project are the Annapolis Basin Conference Centre (ABCC); Cornwallis Community Gardens;  Acadian Seaplants; Basin Centre; NS Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage; and the Annapolis Valley Trails Coalition.

“It is these kind of partnerships that create better places and community growth,” noted Warden Morrison. “When everyone pitches in to assist one another it expands stewardship opportunities and pride in the local community.”

The park will be part of Annapolis County’s system of parks and trails that allows people the opportunity to learn more about beach ecology, including students from Clark Rutherford Memorial School (CRMS) who will continue to utilize the area for beach activities including beach clean-ups.

Warden Morrison, along with other partner representatives, were on hand at a sod turning event on Thursday, November 17th, to unveil the official name, Annapolis Basin Tidal Beach Park, and enjoy a tour of the site.

The Park will officially open in 2023. It is located at 14 Paardeberg St. in Cornwallis Park.
