Council Highlights: July 19, 2016

·      The Municipality will issue tax receipts to the list of donors who contributed to the Bridgetown Jubilee Park Floating Dock Project, as circulated.

·      The Trap-Neuter-Return Program will proceed for the 2016-17 fiscal year.

·      Municipal Council authorized the release of $20,000 from the Fire Services Capital Reserve to the Annapolis Royal Volunteer Fire Department to purchase wildlife protective gear.

·      Municipal Council authorized the release of approximately $59,000 from the Fire Services Capital Reserve to the North Queens Fire Association to make payment on their outstanding loan.

·      Municipal Council approved a grant in the amount of $2,400 to the Royal Canadian Legion, Brach #21, Clementsport.

·      Municipal Election update: Municipal Council approved the Tariff of Fees and Expenses in the amount of $26,826.52 relating to the 2016 Municipal Election on October 15, 2016. Two candidate information sessions (start times: 1 pm and 6 pm) will be taking place on July 21st at the Municipal Office, Annapolis Royal. ·      Municipal Council approved a grant in the amount $25,000 to the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board Bridgetown New Playground Committee.

·      Municipal Council will provide a letter supporting the ongoing work being done by the Age Advantage Association in relation to their application for New Horizons for Seniors - Community Based Projects funding.

·      Municipal Council has suspended all regular committee meetings in August, noting that it did not include Municipal Council nor did it prohibit holding special meetings or meetings usually required in August due to the nature of the committee.

·      Municipal Council will provide a letter in support of the Oakdene Centre project’s application of funds from Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), subject to the Municipality’s review of the application.

·      Municipal Council approved an amount of up to $500 for each Heritage Advisory Committee citizen member (two) to attend the three-day Provincial Heritage Conference (Wolfville, NS) in September.

·      Municipal Council approved the County’s share of the Junction Rd. shoulder-widening by NS Department of Infrastructure & Renewal of $56,091.10 (+ HST) to be funded by Gas Tax.

·      Municipal Council will provide a letter in support of the Bridgetown Community Recreation Association’s (Bridgetown Arena) application of funds from Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), subject to the Municipality’s review of the application.

·      Municipal Council authorized the Warden and the Clerk to sign the Letter of Intent for the Annapolis Basin Waterfront Development project and the CAO to sign the Terms of Reference.

·      Municipal Council authorized the Warden and the Clerk to sign the Memorandum of Understanding with the Annapolis Valley Regional Library Board.

·      Beth Earle, Nova Scotia MusicFest (NSMF) representative, visited Council to speak of plans for a Nova Scotia MusicFest in 2017. This would be a family-oriented event to take place a week prior to the Wharf Rat Rally in an effort to extend the stay of visitors to the area. The venue will be the Annapolis Basin Conference Centre. The NSMF committee requested$5,000 towards marketing and promoting the event during the 2016 Wharf Rat Rally. Municipal Council will be supporting this request.

·      It was reported that the Port Royal Family Fun Day scheduled for September 10th will be postponed until spring 2017. Municipal Council agreed the $3,000 allotted for this event will be put forth for consideration in next year’s 2017-18 budget.

·      Municipal Council will send Premier McNeil a letterregarding the cutting and harvesting of hardwood on Crown land formerly owned by Bowater.
