Description
The Lawrie Group is a privately held business owned and operated by Rob Lawrie and Joanne Lawrie, based in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia.
- It operates under the banner of Home Hardware (and its sub-brands: Home Hardware Building Centre, Home Furniture) in the southwestern region of Nova Scotia.
- The first store in the group dates back to 1982 (Annapolis location) and the Lawrie family has expanded it from that base.
- Our stores serve both general consumers (DIY, home-improvement) and trade/contractor segments (building materials, lumber, installation services).
Locations & Store Formats
- Currently, we operate several store locations in southwestern Nova Scotia, under various formats (hardware, building centre, home furniture). For example:
- Annapolis Home Hardware Building Centre — ~10,000 sq ft retail + lumber warehouse + distribution.
- Meteghan Home Hardware Building Centre — 15,000 sq ft retail + lumber warehouse.
- Bridgetown Home Hardware Building Centre — 6,0000 sq ft retail + lumber warehouse
- Kingston Home Hardware Building Centre - 8,000 sq ft retail + lumber warehouse.
- Mary Lake Home Hardware Building Centre - 8,000 sq ft retail + lumber warehouse

- Middleton Home Hardware - 8,000 sq ft retail hardware store. Selling; housewares, tools, plumbing/electrical, paint, patio and outdoor living as well as seasonal and farm supplies.
- Middleton Home Furniture - 8,000 sq ft furniture and appliance.
- The different store formats reflect the needs of their markets: standard hardware stores, full building supply centres, furniture-showroom formats.
Products & Services
- We carry a broad range of home improvement, renovation and furnishing products: paint, plumbing, electrical, appliances, furniture, kitchens, lawn & garden, outdoor power equipment, building materials, windows & doors.
- Some of the stores provide additional services: equipment rentals, installation services, windows/screens repair, locksmithing, special orders.
- We emphasises good customer service, competitive pricing, and being a “local partner” for residents and contractors alike.
Corporate / Ownership & Values
- The company is family-owned and expresses a strong community orientation and regional support.
- The Lawrie Group was established in 1982, with current retail locations owned/operated by the Lawrie family.
- Home Hardware stores (the broader network) are 100% Canadian owned and have a catalogue of over 100,000 items, providing depth of product via the co-operative buying power. Home Hardware Building Centre
What stands out
- Local ownership: Being family-owned and regionally based provides us an advantage in serving local customers and building relationships in smaller communities.
- Broad product range + building supply capability: With building centre locations (lumber, warehouses) we can serve contractors and large projects as well as retail DIY customers.
- Service orientation and additional services (rentals, installations, special orders) — gives more value than just self-service retail.
- We are part of a larger network (Home Hardware) which allows us access to large product assortment, but still operate locally.
- We have shown growth and expansion within our region creating a "one stop shop" for construction and renovation needs of home owners and contractors alike. (multiple acquisitions of stores over time).
Some caveats / things to note
- Our geographic footprint is regional (southwestern Nova Scotia)
- For very large scale national projects or procurement, our national HH chain is tied in with Canoe procurement.
- The experience and selection may vary store-to-store and depending on location, store size and local market but if we don't have what you're looking for we will find it.
Summary
In short, The Lawrie Group of Home Hardware Stores is a locally-owned, family-operated network of home improvement and building supply stores in southwestern Nova Scotia. We work under the Home Hardware brand umbrella, offering a wide range of products (from tools and plumbing supplies to furniture) and services (rentals, installations, contractor support). We combine local market knowledge with the buying power of a national network, and emphasize service, competitiveness, and community presence.
